What to Look for in an Infinite Banking Practitioner — A Georgia Business Owner's Guide
New here? Start with our beginner's guide to financial clarity
You’ve heard about the Infinite Banking Concept. Maybe someone mentioned it in a Facebook group. Maybe you searched it on YouTube. Maybe a colleague said it changed how they run their business finances.
Now you’re curious. Maybe even convinced. And you’re starting to look for someone to help you set it up.
Here is where most people make an expensive mistake.
They find an agent. The agent sells them a whole life policy. And two or three years later, they realize the policy was never designed for the Infinite Banking Concept in the first place. The cash value is underperforming. The premiums are too rigid. The structure doesn’t match how they actually want to use it.
By then, surrendering or restructuring the policy is costly and the trust is gone.
As a Georgia Infinite Banking practitioner licensed in 26 states, I’ve had those conversations with people who came to me after that experience. It is one of the most frustrating situations to walk someone through.
So before you sit down with anyone about the Infinite Banking Concept, here is what you should know and what you should ask.
First: Understand That Not Every Whole Life Policy Is an IBC Policy
This is the most important thing in this entire article.
Whole life insurance and the Infinite Banking Concept are not the same thing.
Whole life insurance is the vehicle. The Infinite Banking Concept is the strategy. And the strategy only works when the vehicle is built correctly.
A standard whole life policy prioritizes the death benefit. An IBC-designed policy is structured to maximize cash value growth in the early years – which requires a specific combination of base premium, paid-up additions rider, and carrier selection that most general agents do not routinely build.
If an agent is not talking to you about policy design before they talk to you about premiums, that is a red flag.
The Questions Every Georgia Business Owner Should Ask
Before you hand anyone a premium check, ask these questions directly. The answers will tell you everything you need to know.
“Are you an authorized IBC practitioner?” There is a difference between an agent who has heard of the Infinite Banking Concept and a practitioner who has been trained in it. Nelson Nash the founder of IBC – established a body of knowledge around this strategy. Authorized practitioners have studied that material. Ask directly.
“Which carriers do you work with for IBC design?” Not every insurance carrier is built for the Infinite Banking Concept. The design, dividend history, loan provisions, and rider availability vary significantly. A practitioner who understands IBC will be able to tell you exactly which carriers they use and why – and the answer should not be simply “whichever one approves your application.”
“Can you show me how the cash value grows in years one through five?” An IBC policy is not an overnight strategy. The early years build the foundation. A practitioner should be able to walk you through an illustration that shows how the cash value develops over time not just what the policy looks like at retirement age.
“How do policy loans actually work with this carrier?” Loan provisions differ by carrier. Some use direct recognition – meaning your dividend may be affected when you take a loan. Others use non-direct recognition – meaning the full cash value continues to earn dividends even while a loan is outstanding. For a business owner who plans to use policy loans regularly, this distinction matters enormously.
“Are you licensed in my state?” This one is basic, but important. An agent must be licensed in the state where you reside to sell you a policy. If you operate a business across multiple states or plan to relocate, multi-state licensing matters. Ask for their license number and verify it.
What Georgia Business Owners Specifically Need to Consider
Georgia has a strong and growing base of self-employed professionals – business owners, healthcare providers, real estate investors, contractors, consultants, and creatives – who are actively looking for financial strategies that match how they actually operate.
For a Georgia business owner, the Infinite Banking Concept can be particularly useful because:
Georgia does not have its own state income tax exemption on life insurance cash value growth in the same way some states treat annuities, but the federal tax treatment of whole life cash value – tax-deferred growth, tax-free loans, and income-tax-free death benefit remains intact regardless of state.
Georgia business owners often deal with seasonal income, contract-based revenue, and industry-specific cash flow patterns that make the flexible repayment structure of policy loans a practical fit.
And for business owners who are also protecting a family, building a legacy, or planning an eventual business transition – the permanent death benefit carries additional weight.
These are the conversations a Georgia IBC practitioner should be having with you. Not just “here’s a policy.” But: here’s how this fits your business, your state, your income structure, and your long-term goals.
Red Flags to Watch For
Not every agent who mentions the Infinite Banking Concept is qualified to design one. Watch for these warning signs:
They lead with the product, not the strategy. If an agent’s first move is to quote you a premium without asking about your cash flow, your business structure, your existing protection, and your goals – they are selling a product, not designing a system.
They promise specific returns or guaranteed results. A credible IBC practitioner will show you illustrations and explain how dividends have historically performed – but they will not promise you a specific rate of return. Dividends are declared annually by the insurance company and are not guaranteed.
They can’t explain the design decisions. If you ask why the policy is structured a certain way and they can’t explain it clearly, that’s a problem. A practitioner should be able to walk you through every design element and explain exactly what it accomplishes.
They rush the process. The Infinite Banking Concept is a long-term strategy. Any practitioner who makes you feel pressure to decide quickly is not respecting the weight of that commitment.
What Working With an Authorized IBC Practitioner Actually Looks Like
When you work with Dr. Cheryl and Team at Insure With Cheryl, the process is not transactional.
It starts with understanding your numbers – your income, your cash flow, your existing protection, your business structure, and your goals. We don’t design a policy until we understand what you’re actually trying to build.
From there, we identify the right carrier and policy design for your specific situation. We explain the illustration in plain language. We walk through how policy loans work, how repayment affects performance, and what the system looks like at five years, ten years, and beyond.
And when the policy is in place, the relationship doesn’t end. We stay in contact because the Infinite Banking Concept is a strategy attention. and strategies require ongoing attention.
That is what it should look like. If it doesn’t feel that way with whoever you’re talking to, keep looking.
